Engine Cleaning Advice

We clean engines at Mangino Chevrolet, and we are happy to share some DIY advice with you today. Keeping your Amsterdam, NY-area vehicle’s engine clean will boost your love for your car.

Sunny, warm days are optimal for cleaning engines. Low humidity will help your engine dry, too. If you have just driven, let your engine cool. Additionally, we advise you to remove all of your engine’s plastic parts before proceeding. Further, you must protect all electronics under your hood. Find your battery’s negative terminal and detach it. Also, plastic bags will keep water off of electronic components.

Liberally spray a household degreaser onto your engine. Apply extra degreaser to especially dirty areas. With a synthetic brush, scrub where needed. Next, rinse your engine. A garden hose does a good job. As you let your engine dry, use a low-lint towel on damp areas, and think about your next drive.
